Speed of Dark
Barry Allen's latest album is now available. Long before there was any inkling of Barry heading into the studio again, his mark on the Alberta and Canadian music scene stood tall and had covered so much musical terrain in so many diverse roles that it makes one pause to grasp the scope of it all. This is a man who was playing large sold-out shows as a member of The Rebels and as a solo artist all across western Canada when he was a young man. Back in the sixties Barry’s voice was a staple on Canadian Top 40 radio for a significant amount of time, thanks to the recordings of songs like Love Drops, Easy Come Easy Go, and Armful of Teddy Bears. In particular the Randy Bachman penned and produced Wednesday In Your Garden, is a fine example of the muscular thrust combined with subtle vocal nuances that Barry was capable of delivering and how he was blessed with an immediately identifiable set of pipes.
